About Corelight

Corelight delivers open network detection and response (NDR) solutions trusted by the world’s most critical environments. From national defense to multi-cloud enterprise security, Corelight helps defenders detect and respond to threats faster using Zeek-powered telemetry and AI-driven insights.

With 320 employees and growing, Corelight’s mission requires leaders who can operate confidently, communicate clearly and build high-performing teams - even in moments of complexity and change.

The Challenge: Enabling managers in a high-growth, high-impact environment

As Corelight expanded its presence in federal, international and commercial sectors, its hiring ramped significantly, especially within high-leverage roles like engineering, customer success, and operations. But there was a clear bottleneck: first-time managers were being asked to lead without structured development.

“We had people stepping into management who were sharp, but hadn’t been taught how to lead. We needed something fast, flexible, wasn’t a huge time sink and combined on demand and live learning.”

Traditional training wasn’t a fit as it was too expensive, too time-consuming, and too disconnected from the pace of the business. What Karyn, who leads Learning and Development, needed was a solution that would give managers actionable skills without pulling them out of the work.

The Solution: A scalable, cohort-based leadership engine

Manager Method offered a hybrid format that worked: short, self-paced videos paired with live group discussion. Corelight launched its first cohort of Manager 101 and quickly saw engagement take hold.

“The conversations in the cohorts are where the real growth happens. People show up, they talk through what’s actually happening on their teams and shared challenges.”

Participation extended across functions like engineering and customer success - and even drew in experienced managers who wanted to sharpen their skills.

Strategic Value: Making leadership development a lever for growth

Karyn embedded Manager Method into Corelight’s talent programs by

Connecting program completion to high-potential development pathways
Customizing cohort communication to align with Corelight’s language and culture
Scheduling biannual cohorts to establish a regular training cadence

This structure allowed leadership development to scale with the business - rather than lag behind it.

“We needed a way for people to be ready and know how to lead. Manager Method gave us a way to do that - without slowing anyone down.”

Looking Ahead: Building a leadership system for the next layer of growth

As Corelight expands, Karyn is thinking beyond individual courses. She’s exploring:
  • Tools for strategic decision-making at the second-line level
  • Self-assessments and 360s to increase self-awareness and engagement
  • A broader system that connects learning, execution, and culture
“We don’t just want to train managers—we want to build leaders who can scale teams, make decisions, drive clarity, and carry the mission forward.”

Business Impact

  • Accelerated time to leadership readiness across critical functions
  • Improved consistency in how managers run teams, hold conversations, and make decisions
  • Stronger talent retention by providing real development pathways even when upward mobility is limited

“Manager Method helped us create real momentum—practical skills, consistent structure, and a leadership culture that’s scaling with the business.”
