The Manager Method: A Practical Leadership Book for Managers - And Resources to Use It

Feb 12, 2026

It’s book launch week, and I’m so excited that The Manager Method: A Practical Framework to Lead, Support, and Get Results is out in the world.

This book is a summary of real conversations and tips I've given managers for years - from hiring, to delegation, to performance issues, and what "being strategic" actually means. Seeing it published is incredible.

But I don’t want this to be a leadership book that sits on a shelf. I want managers to actually use it.

That’s why the book includes reflection questions at the end of every chapter, and why I created three practical resources to make applying the framework simple - whether you’re an individual manager or rolling this out across your organization.

You can access all three resources (for free!) at managermethod.com/book. I highlight them in this week's video, and explain how they work below.

1. The Self-Reflection Guide (for Managers Who Want to Grow Intentionally)

If you’re reading The Manager Method on your own, the Self-Reflection Guide is the best place to start.

While the book includes reflection questions, this Guide expands on them and organizes them in a way that helps you think more intentionally about how you lead. It walks through topics like delegation, accountability without micromanaging, hiring and onboarding, running better meetings, balancing work and life and thinking strategically.

It asks questions like:

- Where does self-doubt show up for me as a manager?

- Do I actually know what’s going on with my team, or do I think of them as their job titles?

- If I asked my team whether expectations are clear, what would they say?

- Does my calendar reflect what matters most, or just getting through each day?

This isn’t about perfect answers. It’s about building self-awareness and making small shifts that compound over time. If you want leadership development that’s practical and personal, this Guide helps you apply the book instead of just agreeing with it.

2. The Book Club Guide for HR Leaders and Manager Discussions

If you’re in HR, senior leadership, or responsible for manager development, the Book Club Guide helps turn The Manager Method into structured conversations across your organization.

Instead of just handing managers a book and hoping they read it, this Guide provides conversation starters, real-life discussion scenarios and “try this together” exercises for each chapter. It helps managers talk about how they can apply Pause-Consider-Act in real decisions.

For example, groups can:

- Realize that they're not alone in feeling like managing is hard - but also find solutions together

- Rethink how they delegate

- Redesign meetings to make them more actionable

- Discuss how accountability can feel supportive instead of punitive

This is how leadership development becomes a shared language, and managers build relationships and collaborate to benefit the entire organization (instead of winging it all alone).

3. The Pause-Consider-Act Worksheet for Real-Time Leadership Moments

The Pause-Consider-Act framework is the heart of The Manager Method, and the worksheet is designed for the moments when leadership feels hardest.

From how to take over a new team, to having a performance conversation you've been putting off, to handling those "How is this my job?" moments.

Instead of reacting immediately, the worksheet walks you through three steps:

- Pause - What am I feeling? What’s my instinct?
- Consider - What assumptions might I be making? What perspective am I missing?
- Act - What’s the most helpful next step? What does accountability look like here?

It even provides example language to help you start conversations, so you're not starting from scratch.

This tool can be used anytime managers need it. It helps shift from reacting immediately to leading intentionally (even in just a few seconds).

Leadership Development That Doesn’t End With the Last Page

If you’re searching for practical leadership tools, manager training resources or a framework for handling real workplace challenges, The Manager Method can give you something usable - not theoretical.

Launch week is exciting (and it's been great, hitting #1 in New Releases in multiple categories and already being translated into additional languages), but what excites me more is this: managers pausing before reacting, asking better questions, setting clearer expectations and leading with both accountability and empathy.

You can get The Manager Method in hardcover, digital or audiobook format. It’s available through your local bookstore, major retailers and all sorts of options here: managermethod.com/book.

And if you’ve already purchased a copy, leaving a rating and review makes a huge impact. Reviews help other managers find the book and decide to invest in their own leadership growth.

Thank you for supporting this launch, and more importantly, for doing the work of leading well.
